Athletic Training
The Texas Sports Medicine Center’s Athletic Training program offers event medicine and post-discharge rehabilitation. Our athletic training staff is available to provide on-site athletic training services for athletic events, such as fun runs and youth sport tournaments (soccer, baseball, softball, basketball). The athletic training staff will prepare a medical station complete with tables, ice, water, and sports medicine supplies. Typically, the medical station is open for service ½ hour before event begins and ½ hour after the event has ended.
Event Medicine, includes:
- Staffing by licensed athletic trainers
- Medical tent
- Injury evaluation
- First aid for injuries and illnesses
- Adhesive strapping
- Blister & wound care
- Referral to emergency room, hospital and/or physician
Return to Sport Rehabilitation
Often there is a gap between athletes being discharged from a physical therapy program and their scheduled return to sport. In most cases this gap is the result of limits placed on patients’ managed health care coverage. In order to maintain a continuum of care and prepare an injured athlete for a safe and successful return to sport, we offer a post-physical therapy return to sport rehabilitation program.
Programs are primarily available for anterior cruciate knee reconstructions, rotator cuff repairs and severe ankle sprains. However, our state licensed staff can design a return to sport rehabilitation program for most athletic injuries. This is a fee for service program.
Program emphasizes:
- Sport specific exercises
- Core training
- Speed and Agility
- Cardiovascular training
- Strength and power training
- Referral to strength and conditioning coaches upon release from attending physician
