Fitness and Recreation
Exercise is the body's fountain of youth. When performed on a regular basis, exercise is known to restore energy, harden bones, build muscle, reduce stress, control body weight and help the body fight off sickness and disease. Both physical and mental health are positively influenced through regular / moderate physical activity. The Texas Sports Medicine Center has long recognized the benefits of exercise, and shortly after its inception in 1983 incorporated community fitness as a service.
The Surgeon General has warned the American public, "the lack of physical exercise is detrimental to their health". Sedentary lifestyle is the number one risk factor for many health problems. Even though Americans are the most health conscious nation in the world, and know that exercise is beneficial, the lack of motivation results in a population that is unfit and overweight. The goal of the Fitness Program is to help its members improve their quality of life by offering an appropriate exercise program, which is relative to the motivated individual’s level of fitness. Texas Sports Medicine Center has the fitness equipment, facility and staffing readily available to meet its members’ exercise goals.
