Occupational and Hand Therapy

Occupational and Hand Therapy is a rehabilitation profession that uses therapeutic techniques as well as functional tasks to have the patient achieve their maximum functional potential following injury or surgery

Occupational Therapists have special training in treating patients with hand, upper extremity, sports and work-related injuries. Our Occupational Therapy personalized rehabilitation programs include but are not limited to:

  • Hand and wrist injuries and fractures
  • Finger fractures
  • Joint injuries
  • Sports injuries
  • Tendonitis and arthritis of the hand, wrist and elbow
  • Nerve injuries and surgeries
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Trigger finger
  • Post-operative rehabilitation for upper extremity injuries
  • Work related injuries

Our Occupational Therapy department has rehabilitative equipment to help the patient regain maximum physical and functional use of their extremity. The treatment area is specially designed for patients needing therapy for hand, upper body, sport, and work injuries. The gym and exercise area can also be utilized to further facilitate recovery.

From the first visit, our therapist will determine the best plan of care based on the physician's orders and the patient's physical and functional needs. The Occupational Therapist will then use the following to achieve the therapy goals

  • Range of motion exercises
  • Manual therapy techniques
  • Strengthening exercises
  • Custom splint fabrication
  • Cold laser therapy
  • Function based activities (patient specific)
  • Physical agent modalities (heat, cold, etc.)
  • Job or sport simulation
  • Home programs
  • Scar management

Our goal at the Texas Sports Medicine Center is to treat the whole person, not just the injury. We realize that a patient's entire life is affected when an injury occurs. That is why we make our goals for rehabilitation the same as the patient's. To schedule an Occupational Therapy appointment, please call (281) 351-6300.
